Illini Lights Out

Not in use? Turn off the juice!

iSEE’s Illini Lights Out (ILO) program demonstrates the immense energy-saving impact of simply turning off the lights when you leave a classroom, lab, or study space. On several Friday evenings each semester, volunteers gather to form lights-out brigades that fan out across campus to record how many lights are left on and shut off as many as they can!

Launched in Spring 2016 as a one-off event, the program expanded during the 2016-17 academic year with the support of a grant from the Student Sustainability Committee (SSC). It now includes multiple events you can take part in each semester. Volunteering takes about an hour and a half. Join us to help save energy, cut utility costs, and avert emissions!

2025-26 ILO Dates

ILO events start at 5 p.m. Fridays in the lobby of the Literatures, Cultures & Linguistics Building, 707 S. Mathews Ave., Urbana. All participants must register individually, even if they are part of an RSO:
